35 years of my career in interrogative department is finally coming to an end. Though I feel glad that I will get time to spend with my family, I will be missing this field, which was my companion since I turned 25. Never did a thought occur to me that I would be handling my so called “final case”. I stepped into this career by my own choice, in fact out of my own interest. So, by the time I was 25, I became the first women police officer from my state. At the age of 30, I became the youngest person in history to have established a new branch in the field of policing: “Specialized psychotic interrogative branch”. From my childhood, I have always loved to observe and analyse psychology of a person. Playing with the human psyche is the best feeling in the world. This passion of mine laid foundations for the success of my 35 years of glorious career which saw a record of 74% success rate in this impossible field. My name is Ananya and I am on a mission to unveil the truth behind the infamous case of “The Wire”.
As I walked past the corridors of secure mental care facility (prisons for insane people) for the last time, I felt the waves of hidden negative psychology intersecting in my brain. 600 prisoners, 1200 faces, millions of thoughts storming their brains and one common thing- they are here not by choice. I understand their inner personality and that has been the reason behind my success. I was not fearless, but I embraced that fear and while interrogating the criminals, I convert my fear into my determination to drive out that fear from the hearts of common people. I never asked more than 7 questions and those were more than enough for me to rattle their minds and get the truth out of them. With that confidence I opened the file of my last case. As I read the file, I sensed that the destiny is going to bid me a grandiose good bye. I have seen many such deceptive and dangerous files, but not such a deadly combination of both! He has been dormant for past 20 years and suddenly he is listed as the primary suspect in “The Wire” case after disentanglement of some key clues and forming a particular pattern. If he was successful in remaining under the radar for twenty years, then this is going to be difficult for me because patience and long term tactics are very hard shells to penetrate.
As I entered the cabin, I looked around, took a deep breath and proceeded to the table. For the first time in my career, I felt a chill down my spine when I saw him. It may have been because this is my last case and I don’t want to put a wrong step. He greeted me with a grin and was continuously smiling, which surprised me! His short look, sharp face features and distinctive eyes added to his aura of perilous personality. A calm and composed person always has multiple tricks up his sleeve just like a magician is, on the stage. He always has a smile on his face, confident of his ability to deceive the audience. Being the spectator, you look for the trick. You either understand the trick or end up enjoying the show, but can’t experience both the feelings together. I was ready with my set of questions, hoping to decode the trick as I am in no mood to enjoy the show. But one difference this case has with my previous ones is that, I am not sure of my success this time!
On any other day, a 60 year old woman interrogating a 50 year old man would be a perfect scenario to take your nap, as it would be uninteresting to the core. But this is the clash between an officer determined to end her career with collars up and a criminal who managed to stay invulnerable for 20 years! This is war!
